Ingredients
  

For the Pasta

  • 8 oz Penne Pasta Use Barilla for optimal texture.

For the Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil Extra virgin enhances taste.
  • 1 medium Onion Finely diced.
  • 1 lb Ground Turkey 93% lean for moisture.
  • 1 tsp Salt Adjust according to taste.
  • 1 tsp Pepper Adjust according to taste.
  • 1 Tbsp Italian Seasoning Fresh herbs are a great alternative.
  • 3 cloves Garlic Freshly minced.

For the Creaminess

  • 2 Tbsp Unsalted Butter Can be omitted for a lighter dish.
  • 2 Tbsp Flour Gluten-free flour can be used.
  • 2 cups Chicken Broth Low sodium is best.
  • 15 oz Tomato Sauce
  • 1 cup Half and Half Heavy cream for a richer sauce.

For the Toppings

  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese Can substitute with cheddar.
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese Can substitute with mozzarella.
  • 1 tsp Paprika Optional for mild spice.
  • 2 Tbsp Parsley For garnish.
  • 1 tsp Chili Flakes For garnish.

Instructions
 

Cooking Instructions

  • Start by dicing the onion and mincing the garlic.
  • Bring salted water to a boil and cook penne until 1-2 minutes shy of the package instructions.
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 5 minutes.
  • Add the ground turkey to the skillet, cooking until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Stir in minced garlic, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning, cooking for another minute.
  • Toss in the unsalted butter and let melt. Sprinkle in the flour, stirring for 1-2 minutes.
  • Pour in the chicken broth and tomato sauce, letting it simmer for 3-4 minutes.
  • Stir in the cooked penne, adding half and half gradually and adjusting with reserved pasta water.
  • Mix in half of the mozzarella and cheddar until melted, then transfer to a baking dish.
  • Top with remaining cheese and paprika. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley before serving!

Notes

Optional to serve with garlic bread or simple Italian side salad for a complete meal.
