Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8-inch cake pan with cooking spray.
  • Mix together brown sugar, granulated sugar, neutral oil, eggs, and vanilla extract in a large bowl until fully combined.
  • Whisk the all-purpose flour, baking powder, ground spices, and kosher salt in another bowl.
  • Combine the wet and dry ingredients by gradually adding the flour mixture to the sugar mix.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  • Cool the cake in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack.
  • Prepare the frosting by creaming the room temperature butter with the confectioners' sugar.
  • Frost the cooled cake generously with the buttercream and refrigerate to set it for about 30 minutes.
