  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour or whole wheat for a healthier option
  • 1 cup Warm Water be mindful of temperature
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Baking Powder or baking soda as a substitute
  • 1 large Egg or flax egg for vegan option
  • 4 cups Vegetable Oil for frying; coconut oil can be used

For the Sweet Topping

  • 1 cup Cinnamon Sugar adjust ratio for desired sweetness
  • to taste Honey or Syrup agave can be a great alternative

Optional Fillings

  • 1 cup Chocolate or Dulce de Leche for sweet lovers
  • 1 cup Cream Cheese consider adding some fruit

How to Make Bunuelos

  • In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Stir to blend thoroughly.
  • Gradually pour in warm water and crack in the egg. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until soft and elastic.
  • Cover the dough with a kitchen towel and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into small balls, then roll each one out into a thin circle, about ¼ inch thick.
  • In a large, deep skillet, heat vegetable oil to 350°F.
  • Carefully place the rolled dough in the hot oil, frying until golden brown on each side for about 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove the bunuelos and drain on paper towels, then sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar and drizzle with honey or syrup.

Notes

Optional: Serve with chocolate or dulce de leche for a sweet surprise. Adjust spices and toppings to your preference.
