How to Make Kentucky Derby Bars

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a 13×9-inch baking pan with aluminum foil, spraying it lightly with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, confectioners' sugar, and salt. Cut in the softened butter until it resembles sandy crumbs. Press firmly into the bottom of the pan and bake for 15 to 18 minutes until lightly browned.
  • In the same bowl, whisk the brown sugar, dark corn syrup, melted butter, and eggs until smooth. Fold in chopped pecans and chocolate chips.
  • Pour the filling mixture over the crust and spread evenly. Bake for an additional 35 to 40 minutes until the center is set.
  • Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan. For best results, chill them in the refrigerator until firm.
  • Lift the bars out using the foil, cut into squares, and store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

Notes

For extra sweetness, sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving. Consider adding a splash of vanilla extract or whiskey for flavor enhancement.
