How to Make Dinner Rolls

  • Heat 4 cups of milk, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 cup of vegetable oil in a pot until warm (not boiling).
  • Allow the milk mixture to cool to a lukewarm temperature (90-110°F).
  • In a large bowl, mix 4 cups of flour and 4 ½ teaspoons of active dry yeast into the cooled milk mixture. Gradually add in 5 additional cups of flour, creating a smooth dough.
  • Cover the mixture with a tea towel and let it sit for about an hour until it rises noticeably.
  • Stir in additional flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until everything is well combined.
  • You can refrigerate the dough for up to 2 days. If using the same day, allow it to sit out until ready to form rolls.
  • Butter muffin pans and shape dough into walnut-sized balls, placing three in each muffin cup.
  • Allow rolls to rise for 2-3 hours before baking.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F and bake until golden brown for about 20 minutes.
