Instructions

Cookie Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg, milk, and vanilla extract, mixing well. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients until a smooth dough forms.
  • Divide the cookie dough into two equal discs. Wrap each disc in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). On a floured surface, roll out one disc of chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Transfer the cut-out hearts onto a baking sheet and freeze for 10 minutes before baking.
  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  • In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until light and fluffy. Add food coloring as desired.
  • Once the cookies are completely cooled, use an offset spatula to frost each cookie generously with the creamy buttercream frosting. Top with festive sprinkles.
