Ingredients
  

For the Pudding

  • 1-1½ loaves French Bread sliced into ¾ inch pieces
  • 2 cups Water essential for the syrup
  • 2 cones Piloncillo or brown sugar as a substitute

For the Syrup

  • 2 sticks Cinnamon Sticks for flavor
  • 2 whole Cloves adds spice

For the Mix-Ins

  • ½ cup Raisins for sweetness and texture
  • ½ cup Pecan Pieces for nuttiness
  • ¼-½ cup Shredded Coconut optional for extra flavor and texture

How to Make Capirotada

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Slice the French bread into ¾ inch pieces and spread them evenly on a baking sheet.
  • Bake the bread for about 15 minutes, until it turns lightly golden and toasted.
  • Combine water, piloncillo, cinnamon sticks, and whole cloves in a saucepan. Heat over medium until melted and the syrup simmers for around 15 minutes.
  • Layer half of the toasted bread into a 13x9 inch baking dish. Sprinkle ¼ cup raisins, ¼ cup pecans, and half of the shredded coconut, then pour ¾ cup of the syrup on top.
  • Repeat the layering process, saving ¼ cup of syrup for drizzling when serving.
  • Bake for an additional 15 minutes, allowing the syrup to fully soak into your fluffy bread.
  • Serve warm or cold, paired with coffee or milk.

Notes

Optional: Garnish with shredded coconut before serving.
