Ingredients
  

For the Casserole

  • 1/2 loaf French bread cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup Butter for the base
  • 1 cup Brown sugar packed
  • 6 large Eggs for custard
  • 2 cups Milk whole or 2%
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons Cinnamon divided

For Topping

  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar for topping
  • Powdered sugar optional

Recipe Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F. Butter a 13x9 inch baking pan generously.
  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar until dissolved. Pour into the prepared pan.
  • Add the bread cubes on top of the butter-brown sugar mixture, spreading them evenly.
  • Whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Pour over the bread cubes and sprinkle with remaining cinnamon and brown sugar.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Optionally sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For best results, use slightly stale bread for better custard absorption. Let casserole sit in the fridge for 30 minutes before baking.
