Preparation

  • Prepare Cake Layers: Follow the box instructions for both the vanilla and strawberry cake mixes separately. Pour the batter into round pans and bake at 350°F for about 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Cool Cakes: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
  • Make Buttercream Icing: In a mixing bowl, beat softened butter and powdered sugar together until fluffy. Gradually mix in vanilla extract and heavy cream.
  • Assemble the Cake: Begin layering with the vanilla cake, spreading a generous amount of buttercream icing on top. Add the strawberry cake layer and repeat the process.
  • Prepare Strawberry Crunch Topping: In a separate bowl, crush the freeze-dried strawberries and Nilla Wafers. Combine with melted butter, then sprinkle over the top layer of the cake.
  • Garnish and Serve: Decorate with fresh strawberries on top. Slice and serve chilled.

Notes

Optional: Drizzle with a little chocolate sauce for extra flair. Refrigerate the cake for easier slicing and a firmer structure.
